July 28, 2026 marked an extraordinary milestone for public health and community care in our state. The Minnesota Community Health Worker Alliance, alongside Community Health Workers (CHWs), healthcare leaders, policymakers, advocates, and allies, gathered at the Minnesota State Capitol for a historic occasion: the official proclamation of Minnesota Community Health Worker Day by Governor Tim Walz.

Proclamations honor individuals and causes that leave a lasting, positive mark on society, and few drive meaningful change quite like our state’s Community Health Workers.

Honoring the Heart of Our Healthcare System

Inspired by fellow CHW and Minneapolis Ward 4 Council Member LaTrisha Vetaw, the Minnesota Community Health Worker Alliance requested this formal recognition to bring well-deserved visibility to the CHW profession. Every day, CHWs serve as vital bridges between healthcare systems and local communities. They build trust, advance health equity, navigate complex care systems, and improve the overall well-being and quality of life for individuals and families across Minnesota.

During last Tuesday’s gathering, the Capitol grounds were filled with energy, unity, and purpose. CHWs took center stage to share powerful impact stories about their frontline work – highlighting the real, human results of compassionate, community-rooted care.

Looking Forward Together

To every Community Health Worker across Minnesota: Thank you. Your dedication, lived experience, and advocacy strengthen our entire healthcare infrastructure and ensure no community is left behind.

While yesterday was a moment to pause and celebrate, it also serves as a springboard for the future of the CHW profession. We remain committed to supporting, elevating, and expanding the reach of CHWs in every corner of our state.
