As January draws to a close we look forward to the beginning of February and all things a new month brings. As always, the first Wednesday of the month will be the CHW Circle meeting hosted by Angela Fields! The Circle welcomes all CHWs, and those with like roles, to attend to engage in this community support network and discuss the topic of the month.
Below you will find the link and more information on the monthly CHW Circle meeting this coming Wednesday, February 3rd, at 3 PMCT:
In the summer of 2020, the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Training Program at Univerity of Texas Health School of Public Health partnered with the Community Health Worker Core Consensus Project (C3 Project) at Texas Tech University to better understand the extent to which the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the community health worker (CHW) workforce. To address this, this study examined the perceptions and experiences of CHWs during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to: 1) understand changes in the CHW workforce, 2) identify training opportunities, and 3) describe priority needs of CHWs and their communities.
An inter-professional team, including CHWs, CHW instructors, and researchers, developed an online survey to understand the perspectives and experiences of CHWs in Texas during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study team distributed the 67-item survey (qualitative and quantitative), available in Spanish and English, via CHW networks and associations and the Texas Department of State Health Services CHW/Promotora Training and Certification Program. 885 CHWs completed the survey.
In the inaugural session of the ORWH series, “Diverse Voices: COVID-19, Intersectionality, and the Health of Women,” Ana Langer, M.D., the director of the Women and Health Initiative (W&HI) at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and Jewel Gausman, Sc.D., M.H.S., a research associate at the W&HI, will lead a plain-language discussion of topics explored in their commentary article “Sex and Gender Disparities in the COVID-19 Pandemic,” recently published in the Journal of Women’s Health.
